Starting in September 2009, we will be holding our Meetups in the Rohrbach Library at Kutztown University. This group is intended for people who are interested in Pennsylvania German, also known as Pennsylvania Dutch, Pennsilfaanisch Deitsch, or simply Deitsch. You need not already be a speaker of the language. This Meetup group has been established for the purpose of increasing awareness of the traditional Pennsylvania German (Deitsch) healing practice of Braucherei, which is also called Powwow. This group is linked to the Three Sisters Center for the Healing Arts, which is an organization dedicated to the pursuit of the spiritual, folk medical, and agricultural wisdom of the Deitsch folk.
With more members joining from Central and Western PA, we've changed the group name to remove the "Eastern" PA reference. Meet others in our local area who follow the traditional Germanic/Norse paths known as Asatru, Urglaawe, Heathenry, or Irminenschaft. Locations of meetings vary based on geographic location of participants and opportunities that arise as we find more sites throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Greetings, I am researching a book on Germany from a rare angle - the German civilian experience from 1900-1950, and especially from 1932-1945 and welcome your German story from this period for my book. My aim in this book is to explore how Germans coped with war, economic depression, the rise of totalitarianism and the saturation bombing of German cities.
